Hello there! You can call me M!
I’ve always been a neuroscience nerd and studied psychology in undergrad, so a lot of my work has been based in neuropsychology. I’m also a lifelong musican and maker, so art is a big part of my life.
A few years ago, I attained my certification as a certified art therapy practitioner and this is my endeavor to merge two of my passions into one: art and neuropsychology.
Art taps into the same unconscious mind where all our traumas and memories are stored, which can help us unblock our emotions and overcome our limiting beliefs.
This is different than traditional therapy tactics because art can express things we may have tucked away in our unconscious that we don’t even know are holding us back. It’s like another language that we can immediately access to help us communicate our feelings and get those feeling out of our bodies. Negative emotions stored indefinitely in our bodies and never expressed can lead to mental as well as physical illnesses and ailments.
PLUS it’s gonna be hella fun to be in a club with a bunch of Rebel Girls, just like yourself who are taking control of their own narrative and creating the badass life they want to live Every. Single. Day.
Our unconscious stores all our memories, associations, and traumas and sometimes words are just downright not enough to express them. Maybe you’ve tried talk therapy and that just makes you all the more anxious, or it just doesn’t seem to get to the root of the problem and provide you with any tangible progress.
YOU DO NOT have to have any kind of an art background to join, and please please please please don’t say you don’t have any artistic ability. This is NOT about making something pretty, it’s about tapping into your unconscious mind and learning how to understand what’s on the inside that might be holding you back in some areas of your life. There is no judgement of “Good” or “Bad”. We’re just going to explore and express what we feel in the moment.
I will share exercises and tips based in art therapy, positive psychology, neuroscience, and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) to help you get closer to creating the life of your dreams! I’m going to share with you the same techniques that I used to change my life for the positive.
In Art Therapy Club, you get to explore the exercises in the comfort of your own home, in a safe space and cozy place free of other people. We will explore areas like your perception of the world around you, relationships, letting go of negative emotions, anxieties and fears you may have that are holding you back, and also your strengths and goals.
One soapbox I will stand on and shout to the rooftops is that mental health awareness and accessibility in this country and the world over is inaccessible for most people. Especially the underserved populations in our communities.
It is better than it used to be, but my experience about a decade ago, when I desterately needed a therapist and getting some mental wellness help just seemed unattainable. I didn’t have good insurance and could could only get an appointment scheduled 3 months out. I needed help immediately. And most people experiencing immediate emotional trauma share the same experience.
My goal is to offer low cost resources that people can access to help them in the in-between and along-side professional therapy, and hopefully help build the skills to endure under hard times—because they come for us all, be it a traumatic breakup, the loss of a loved one, a change in career, shift in hormones, or just simply the challenges of being a human in today’s social landscape.
Healing is hard, you don't have to do it alone. Join the free Art Therapy Club community available here. Hope to see you there!
